Welcome to join SuMu research community’s screening of Orsugiak – The White Gold of Greenland (2025) documentary on the 10th of December at Esko ja Asko -sali, University of Lapland.

The documentary explores the colonial power dynamics between Denmark and Kalaallit Nunaat by diving into the history of cryolite extraction. The film challenges the long-lasting narrative of Denmark as the “good colonizer”. The documentary raised significant societal awareness after the Danish Broadcasting Corporation retracted it one week after its release.

With a special permission from the filmmakers, the SuMu community will showcase the documentary at the University of Lapland with opening words by MÁHTUT Project Planner Eleonora Alariesto.

The documentary lasts approximately 1 hour.
