Instructions for master’s thesis orders

Please read your thesis carefully before submitting it to be printed; check the title page, abstract, page numbering, revisions – did you forget anything?
Your faculty will offer you instructions on the required layout, margins and fonts of the thesis, as well as all on matters related to its content. Ask your supervisor for more information. When adding page numbers, please take into account that we only print on one side of the paper (no mirrored numbering).

If your thesis has colour pages, please let us know of it in your job request. Note the price of colour pages (see the bottom of this page).

List the pages that you wish to be printed in colour. If you do not do this, our machine will count the number of colour pages automatically and we will charge you accordingly. Please give us the page numbers according to the number of PDF pages, not according to those allocated within your written text.

If there is no mention of colour pages in your job request, we will print the entire thesis in black and white.

All theses are printed in the same way whether they are coloured or black and white.

As a rule, master’s theses are printed as softcovers. We print softcover theses on the university’s standard covers. The required information printed on the softcover is extracted from the abstract.

If you wish to design your own covers, send us a print-ready file of the cover design.

If you wish, you may select hard covers for your thesis. When ordering, indicate if you want hard covers and whether you want them in black or burgundy (softcovers always comes in the colour of your faculty). Should you not specify the colour of the hard cover, it will come in black.

The cover will have gold lettering, and it has a standard text that cannot be modified (the front cover contains the university logo, and the spine shows the author’s name and the year of the thesis).

No text or logos can be printed on the spine of theses with less than 55 pages/sheets. This applies to both soft and hard covers.

As of 1 August 2020, master’s and licentiate theses have been archived and published electronically, and no hard archive copies have been printed. Theses are also graded and processed electronically. You are to personally deliver your thesis to the faculty for grading.

If you wish, you may still have hard copies printed of your thesis at your own cost.

NB! The library does not accept hard copies of master’s theses anymore, but you need to provide them a digital copy. You can find instructions on how to do this on the library webpages.

The delivery time for master’s theses is roughly one workweek.

NB! If your thesis deviates from a standard thesis, its delivery time is longer.

If the thesis needs revisions and it has already been printed, we will have to charge you extra for the revisions.

We use ordinary 80g A4 copy paper for the pages and GalerieArt Silk 250g for the covers of theses. If your thesis requires specialty papers, you need to pay the price difference between ordinary paper and the specialty paper.

Specialty papers add €0.05 / sheet + VAT (€0,062 including VAT) to the total cost of the print job, with GalerieArt Matt 100g as the page paper.

Special theses (other than standard size) have longer delivery times than standard theses.

Convert your print-ready work to PDF format and make sure that it is the right size (210 x 297 mm, A4). Send your thesis as an e-mail attachment (max. 20 MB) to gradut.painoon (at) ulapland.fi. Give us your contact information, including your phone number (NB! Adding a phone number is mandatory as of 1 January 2018) and invoicing and delivery address. You will receive an automatic notification after we have received your order.

We do not accept print jobs on USB drives because of viruses and other problems they might cause. If the file is too large for e-mail, you can submit it via an FTP server (Funet FileSender, WeTransfer, etc.).

You can pay by

debit or credit card (also VisaElectron)

invoice (sent afterward).

You can pay with a card in the university library, which is where you will also collect the personal copies that you purchase with your card (to see the opening hours, go to https://luc.finna.fi). Paying online is not possible with a card.

Please note that theses are kept in the library for one month. If you have not collected your copies within a month, they are mailed to you and you are charged for it with extra delivery and invoicing expenses added to the bill.

We will send you an e-mail when your thesis is ready.

If you wish to pay by invoice (additional fee included), indicate in your job request whether you will collect your copies at the Printing Centre or whether you want us to mail them to you. If there is no mention of collecting the order, we will mail you the copies and add delivery costs (€13.81) to the invoice. NB! We do not mail theses abroad. Our system always requires a mailing address for invoicing.
