SCANCOR is a cooperation network between leading Nordic higher education institutions conducting organizational research and Stanford and Harvard Universities. The University of Lapland joined the network in March 2026.

The purpose of SCANCOR (The Scandinavian Consortium for Organizational Research) is to promote research in organizational social science by supporting visits of scholars of its member institutions to Stanford University and Harvard University. The network has dozens of Nordic member universities.

– SCANCOR has had a significant impact on organization and management research conducted in Finland. Since its establishment in 1988, hundreds of Finland-based researchers have visited Harvard and Stanford or participated in the SCANCOR postgraduate courses. It is a pleasure to welcome the University of Lapland to join this network, says Nina Granqvist, Professor of Management at Aalto University and a member of the SCANCOR board.

Vice-Rector for Research Sari Lindblom views SCANCOR membership as a significant opportunity to expand organizational research in international networks and to strengthen research conducted at the University of Lapland.

– This cooperation agreement supports our university’s growth towards achieving our top university goals, says Lindblom.

SCANCOR visitors to Harvard are professors on the tenure track and tenured professors and other permanent research staff members. As for visits to Stanford, the network supports researchers at any stage of their career ranging from doctoral researchers to professors.

Heli Ruokamo, Professor of Media Education and Chair of the Professors’ Council of the University of Lapland, has worked as a visiting scholar at Stanford University for a period of three years.

– Researcher exchange  at different stages of the researcher’s career path present a significant opportunity for our researchers to build networks and to cooperate with internationally distinguished, top-level scholars in their field,” says Ruokamo.
