What is LUC?

The Lapland University Consortium (LUC) is a community whose expertise focuses on Arctic global responsibility, sustainable tourism, future services and reachability. LUC produces new knowledge and competence from an Arctic perspective so that life in the Arctic can continue to thrive in the future; we strive to ensure prosperity and well-being in this area by encouraging both individuals and communities to take responsibility.

The University of Lapland and Lapland University of Applied Sciences focus on research on Arctic and northern change and knowledge of the Arctic environment. The following strategic choices guide and inform the consortium’s work:

  • Global Arctic responsibility
  • Sustainable tourism
  • Future services and reachability.

We have harnessed our global networks focused on Arctic issues to help us reach our strategic goals.

LUC Services

The LUC Services are jointly managed and shared support and administrative services of the University of Lapland and Lapland University of Applied Sciences. They ensure the smooth running of the consortium’s daily operations, high-quality education and research as well as the achievement of shared goals.

The services are centrally managed but produced in a distributed manner in Rovaniemi, Kemi and Tornio based on demand. This way we can guarantee that our services are accessible and that they meet the needs of the entire region.

The LUC Services include the following, among others:

  • Administration and human resources
  • Finances and procurement
  • IT and digital
  • Communication and marketing
  • RDI services to support research and development
