A multifaceted whole

Our research has a central role both in the development of the scientific community and society. Our scientifically high-quality research is societally impactful, and the ever-changing and growing societal needs continuously inspire us to explore new research topics.

The impact of our research is multifaceted, and it is built on both academic excellence and our ability to generate value for society.

Scientific impact

Above all, our scientific impact is reflected in how we promote disciplines focused on Arctic topics by developing new concepts, methods and theories that enrich academic, multivoiced discourse and open up new avenues for research.

Our scientific impact is visible also as active participation in international research networks, such as the Arctic Six and UArctic networks.

Societal impact

The impact of our research also extends beyond the scientific community. We actively influence decision-making, legislation, society and the citizens’ daily lives by offering solutions to timely challenges and supporting the development of new practices.

We increase understanding of phenomena that affect larger groups of people, especially Indigenous communities. We aim to spark discussion, broaden people’s perspectives and strengthen the citizens’ intellectual resources.
