MAGICS – National Infrastructure for Human in the Digital World

The MAGICS infrastructure, a joint initiative of six universities, examines and develops technologies that improve remote interaction, educational accessibility and cultural participation, as well as their use in artistic activities.

MAGICS network

Through MAGICS, the University of Lapland is developing research infrastructure at the interface of design, art and technology, especially the one needed for virtual reality, virtual media productions and digital prototyping of service and product design.

In the coming years, a mobile augmented reality studio (Mobile XR Studio) will be built at the University of Lapland as part of MAGICS. It will include virtual and augmented reality devices and will support field research in design and art in particular in the Lapland region.
