For artists

The Faculty of Art and Design has twelve official galleries in Rovaniemi. The main building of the university houses the following galleries: Seinä, Hämärä, Kilo, Lyhty, Kajo, Kopio, Puoti and Kellari in the F-wing and Gallery Lovisa in the D-wing. The Arktikum Science Centre is home to our Valo, Katve I and Katve II galleries. The university also has other rooms available for hosting occasional pop-up exhibitions.

Our galleries feature a diverse range of art. Our alternating exhibitions display, for example, traditional forms of visual art, such as drawing, painting and sculpture, in addition to environmental art, media art, photography, artistic research and designs from various art industries. On display are our students’ independent and study-related art productions, art made by our staff members, artistic research and exhibitions of visiting artists.

Apply for an exhibition slot

The gallery can be applied for presenting artistic research, exhibitions related to studies or doctoral research, and project exhibitions.

Our galleries are also available to applicants from outside of the university. The prices for renting the galleries can be found in the application forms. Exhibitions that are part of studies can be organised for free.

The application period is open twice per academic year for exhibition slots in the F-wing galleries of the main campus. Spring term exhibition slots are open for applications in the autumn, and consequently, the exhibition slots for autumn are open for applications in the spring. Exhibition slots are available between January and June in the spring, and between September and December in the autumn.

Our galleries at Arktikum host the exhibitions of cooperation networks and the Faculty of Art and Design. We inform the students of the Faculty of Art and Design separately about freely available exhibition slots at our Katve galleries located in Arktikum.

The exhibitions organised at the main campus F-wing galleries last for three weeks and those at the Arktikum galleries last for four to eight weeks. In Gallery Lovisa, exhibitions on the Faculty of Art and Design’s artists of the month are displayed and changed monthly.

Exhibition slots can be applied only by using a printed application form. Application forms can be found via the links below. Save the form on your device, fill it in, and print it out.

In the application, indicate which gallery and timeslot you are applying for and whether the exhibition is part of your studies. If you need AV equipment or gallery furniture for your exhibition, please mention it in the application. Attach a page-long exhibition plan and possible photos to the application.

Organising an exhibition

Write a press release and deliver it to Leila Lipiäinen 10 days before your exhibition. Please attach some photos to your message. We will take care of forwarding the press release and photos to media and the event calendar.

If you wish to arrange a press event, you are responsible for arranging it yourself. You can state that you are available for the press when you are setting up the exhibition or per agreement. You are also responsible for sending invitations to the exhibition as well as for printing and distributing exhibition posters.

You are responsible for setting up your exhibition. Set-up and dismantling days are not part of the exhibition timeslot. Possible days for setting up exhibitions in our main campus galleries are Friday after 12 noon, Saturday and Monday.

Please make sure that your exhibition is dismantled by 12 noon after the last exhibition day. Leave the exhibition room in the same conditions as you received it on the day you began setting up your exhibition. The dismantling day for exhibitions in our main campus galleries is typically Friday.

The set-up and dismantling dates for exhibitions in our galleries located in Arktikum are based on the current exhibition calendar.

Familiarize yourself with the instructions.

Usually opening ceremonies are held on Mondays at 6 pm in the main campus galleries, and on Wednesdays at 6 pm in the Arktikum galleries. As the exhibitor, you will open your exhibition yourself and arrange the catering for it, unless otherwise agreed.
