Collection of Kari Huhtamo Art Foundation

The core of the Kari Huhtamo Art Foundation collection consists of Huhtamo’s sculptures from 1982 to 2003. The collection, owned by the foundation, has been exhibited in the public indoor spaces and grounds of our university since 2005, on the basis of the cooperation agreement signed between our university and the art foundation.

Learn more about the foundation

The Kari Huhtamo Art Foundation was founded in 2005, and its aim is to preserve the artworks and other artistic material of Huhtamo, D.A. h.c. and make them accessible to the public. The foundation also promotes all art education and research of northern art and particularly that of our university.

Collection of Finnish State Art Commission

Since 1956, the Finnish State Art Commission has purchased works of art for the public spaces of the state. These works adorn over 600 destinations in Finland and abroad. About fifty pieces from the collection are displayed in the indoor and outdoor facilities of the University of Lapland.

The works of art exhibited indoors and outdoors on our campus represent a range of different fields of visual arts, including drawings, paintings, graphic art, photographs, sculptures and installations.

Learn more about the commission

The Finnish State Art Commission acquires artworks by organising competitions, ordering and purchasing them at galleries or directly from the artists. The works are placed in public spaces, in the everyday environment of ordinary people, to reach the widest audience possible.
