Electronic degree certificate

The electronic degree certificate is a PDF file that is formed of three sections:

• the certificate page
• a transcript of records that presents the studies completed as part of the degree and the qualifications and competences acquired through the completion of the degree
• a Diploma Supplement that is intended for use in international contexts.

Both Finnish and English versions of the degree certificate are included in the electronic degree certificate file.

The electronic degree certificate is an official, original certificate that is electronically signed by the dean. Electronic degree certificates are more reliable than paper ones; if needed, their authenticity can be verified with the university’s verification service or with the Digital and population data services agency’s service.

After graduating, you can download the electronic degree certificate file from Peppi within 30 days after receiving the download link. Save the file to multiple locations, for example on your own device and on a cloud service.

Do you need a new degree certificate?

If you have lost the degree certificate you received from the University of Lapland, please contact the Student Affairs Office of your faculty. The University of Lapland started using electronic degree certificates at the end of 2023. Students who have graduated before the end of 2023 can ask the office for a verified photocopy of the archive version of the traditional printed certificate. Electronic degree certificates can be re-sent to graduates who received an electronic degree certificate when they graduated. A fee is charged for re-sending degree certificates or their photocopies.

If you received a paper degree certificate when you graduated, you cannot receive an electronic degree certificate later. Consequently, paper degree certificates are not prepared for graduates who received an electronic degree certificate. Paper copies of electronic degree certificates are always unofficial.

Is there an error in your degree certificate or has your social security number changed?

If you notice a significant error in your degree certificate (for example an incorrect degree title or major subject), or if your Finnish social security number has changed after graduation, you can receive a new, fixed degree certificate from your faculty’s Student Affairs Office, free of charge. The fixed degree certificate replaces the original certificate.
