Arcta – Arctic Design Centre

The goal of Arcta is to support innovation-driven business, enhance product design within our customer organisations and support the professional growth of designers. Above all, we offer low-threshold design services, including design projects, innovation events, consulting and training.

The students’ development through working life experiences acquired from close cooperation with businesses is at the heart of our activities. As it happens, creative students from various fields together with professionals are the main producers of our services. The diverse core competency of Arcta is formed by the University of Lapland’s Faculty of Art and Design degree programmes that are focused on design: audiovisual media culture, graphic design, art education, fashion and textile design and design.

Through Arcta, businesses and customer organisations in the public sector are able to access a wide network for cooperation. We bring together both national and international design researchers, creators, researchers and users. The special expertise of our design centre – Arctic design – combines and utilises the methods of design, art and science to meet the needs of the Arctic region. As part of Lapland’s smart specialisation programme and the Arctic Design Cluster, the goal of Arcta is to develop the design-related research, education, business and innovation in the Lapland region.
