Our research community

Arctic change is not only environmental but deeply social, cultural, and political. Our research community brings together and connects research conducted across the faculties of the University of Lapland, the Arctic Centre, and wider research networks. We focus on how transformations in climate, ecosystems, and biodiversity are closely intertwined with changes in livelihoods, governance, education, cultural practices, and everyday life in Arctic regions, including perspectives from the arts.

Our research community also engages with questions of digitalization and Arctic pedagogy, and collaborates in the development of international education, including emerging master’s programmes.

By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, we support and strengthen research that spans social sciences, law, education, and the art and design, as well as Arctic research, and advances shared understanding of Arctic change and adaptation.
