Older people’s learning, competences and inclusion 

This multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research group explores older people’s learning, competences and inclusion in the context of the mediatisation, digitalisation, robotisation and datafication of society. Our focus lies particularly on media literacy, robot literacy, digital competence and digital inclusion among older residents of northern sparsely populated regions, Sámi elders and older immigrants. Additionally, our research addresses geragogy, age-friendly environments and age-friendly learning environments.

MediaRoboLit 65+ focuses on the potential challenges of the present mediatized and digitalized information environment for citizens over 65 years of age, who may lack adequate media and robot literacies to support their lifelong learning, well-being, and participation in society.

The project promotes the awareness and implementation of robotics in the welfare sector in Lapland through networks, joint development, research and experiments.

Aim of the project is to support knowledge management of front-line-managers in elderly care organizations during change processes focused on using digital solutions. The aim is also to enhance front-line-managers’ know how in developing digital skills of professionals and also in developing sense of collectiveness and positive learning environments in their organizations. When developing knowledge management we are also aiming to achieve staff retention and to increase competent staff availability in elderly care on Lapland and Northern Ostrobothnia areas, as well as to promote well-being at work on both social and health care professionals their and front-line-managers.
