Sustainability

Building a societal foundation for well-being requires new innovations and rapid solutions as our actions have already exceeded nature’s carrying capacity. The climate is becoming hotter, species extinction is accelerating, natural resources are running out and our actions are contributing to social inequality.

The sustainability transition and its promotion through sustainability research are key research topics in our faculty. Sustainability transition requires us to make changes that enable a future that is ecologically, socially, culturally and financially sustainable. By conducting pedagogical sustainability research, we support the transition to a more responsible and fair society. We study how school, studying and working environments as well as organisations can be developed to support sustainability transition.

We are interested in pedagogical solutions and organisational cultures that support the well-being of individuals and communities, resilience and active citizenship. Our interests also include values and attitudes that are part of building a sustainable society.

Our areas of research include:

  • Sustainability transformation and social sustainability
  • Pedagogy of sustainability and nature education
  • Futurities of hope and resilience
