Research in Faculty of Education

Our research is focused on understanding and promoting phenomena related to education, teaching and learning as part of global and Arctic change and adaptation to these changes. Our research centres on creative and innovative pedagogical approaches and management thematics that support social cohesion and the well-being of communities.

We conduct research on education and teaching of scarcely populated areas and of Sámi and Indigenous people. We examine the relevance of teaching in empowering communities and the sustainable development of teaching practises for future generations. We also research the media literacy of different-aged people and nascent technologies in current and future media societies. Additionally, we analyse the diversity and social importance of gender and other intersecting features.

Our research supports the cutting-edge research conducted at the University of Lapland. Our research on sustainable naturecultures is focused on promoting the sustainability transition and nature education that strengthens its leverage. Our research is strongly connected to design and services in education, teaching and both continuous and lifelong learning. Inclusion, equality and well-being are the cross-cutting themes of our research. Through education and teaching our research has significant societal impact.
