Internationalisation at home offers an excellent opportunity to experience internationality on your home campus and in everyday life without going abroad. By participating in friendprogram activities or acting as a Welcoming buddy, you can get to know different cultures and meet people around the world.

International experience can also be gained by participating in the My Global Diary Ambassador program, where communication and working-life skills are developed. Internationalisation at home enriches student life and broadens one’s worldview.

Arrival Assistants

Acting as an arrival assistant is an excellent opportunity to gain international and professional experience on your home campus. In this role, you will get to practice your intercultural communication and skills – and maybe new languages! As an arrival assistant, you guide new international degree students whilst also learning yourself. Currently all positions are filled!

Welcoming Buddy Programme

At the University of Lapland, we offer incoming exchange students a Welcoming Buddy. A Welcoming Buddy helps out with questions pre-arrival, assists during the arrival and eases settling in during the first weeks of the exchange semester. Read more on this peer support role and sign up!

My Global Diary Ambassador

Are you interested in increasing interaction between international and local students, as well as developing your own internationalisation skills? Would you like to improve your abilities in social media content creation and build important work-life skills related to internationalisation? Apply to become a My Global Diary Ambassador! We seek new Ambassadors two times in a year, in August for Autumn semester and November for Spring semester.

Join our Friend Program!

Friendship activities are a form of volunteering that offers a wonderful opportunity to get to know different languages and cultures, as well as to build new international friendships. For an international student, friendship activities provide a chance to become more familiar with Finnish culture and everyday life. Invite a new friend to be part of your daily routines!

Studies in English

The faculties offer a wide range of courses and study modules in English, and domestic undergraduate students are also very welcome to join them. Most exchange and international degree students take courses taught in English. Completing some of these courses is an excellent opportunity to meet students from different countries and backgrounds! After your bachelor’s degree, you can continue studies in your own field and specialize through international master’s programs.
