The Responsible and Sustainable Skills for Tourism Platforms (ALMA) project responds to the growing need to develop sustainable, safe, and quality business and tourism skills in the platform economy through training in partnership with educational institutions.

The ALMA project’s main objective is to improve the skills and employment opportunities of the target group in tourism activities on digital platforms. Additionally, the project promotes sustainable and responsible business practices that consider the environment, local communities, culture, and legislation. The project’s target group are people providing services on digital tourism platforms, entrepreneurs and operators interested in developing their skills in tourism services on platforms, for whom the training is targeted. In addition to training, ALMA will provide knowledge and skills for the design and implementation of higher quality, more responsible and sustainable platform services in Lapland, including webinars for a wider audience.

The training, webinars and sparring offered by ALMA will support entrepreneurship and a more sustainable working life by increasing actors’ understanding of the platform economy and the specific features of operating on platforms. They will also improve employment and entrepreneurship by supporting responsible and quality earning opportunities and entrepreneurship on digital platforms.

Take part in the survey: Digital Platforms in Tourism

Help us map the current state of the tourism platform economy in Lapland. We are collecting views from both tourists (platform users) and service providers to support the development of sustainable and responsible tourism.

The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete, and you may respond as a user, a service provider, or both. The results will contribute to a report published in 2027.

Closing remarks

The novelty of the project lies in the fact that it combines the principles of the platform economy and sustainable development into a completely new type of training, delivered in partnership between four educational institutions. The project will enable participants to develop their skills in cooperation with different actors, such as educational institutions and local economic operators.

Close cooperation between the institutions plays a significant role in the development of skills in the region, which in turn contributes to the availability of a skilled workforce.
