Piia Björn, Vice Rector for Education at the University of Lapland, has been appointed to the board of Ilisimatusarfik, the University of Greenland. Björn’s term on the board will continue until the end of February 2028.

The board is Ilisimatusarfik’s highest authority. The Board of Directors looks after Ilisimatusarfik’s interests as a research and educational institution and establishes guidelines for Ilisimatusarfik’s organisation, long-term activities and development.

Björn is Doctor of Philosophy, and she started as Vice Rector for Education at the University of Lapland in beginning of 2025. She has worked as Professor of Special Education at the University of Eastern Finland (2014–2019) and as Vice Rector at the University of Turku (2020–2024). Björn has a Title of Docent in Special Education at the University of Helsinki.
