One of the key goals is to help view the world in a comprehensive and coherent manner — seeing a world where, despite all the mess, logical and natural laws of cause-&-effect prevail.

As an academic field, Global Education is not limited only to educational questions but also touches broadly upon society, ethics, politics, history, philosophy and other foundational fields.

There are both constructive and destructive processes simultaneous at work in the world, which seem to be climaxing towards an unknown turning-point. Although worldwide breakdown appears possible, equally possible is a global breakthrough into something positive.

In this global change, ‘world citizens’ need a comprehensive perspective, a relevant set of values and civic skills upon a sustainable, coherent and enriching future can rest.

That is why the Global Education minor subject (25 cr.) offers students broad vision, critical knowledge and applied skills, by which one can develop oneself as well as help learners of different ages to grow into responsible & proactive world citizens.

Further information is available at the Global Education website. The website is in English, and Global Education courses are in English. Students can receive support and ‘additional tutoring’ whenever they want. The course assignments can be written either in English or in Finnish.

The Global Education minor subject consists of four courses (the links open the pages for each course, providing, among other things, detailed description of the course in English and in Finnish:

The courses are based on conversation & discourse; and students are both Finnish and international. This gives the opportunity to practice authentically and in an encouraging environment one’s world citizenship skills — and, at the same time, you get to develop your English language skills.

Studying Global Education adds international colour and global perspective to your studies. It broadens your world-view and deepens your understanding of the role of education in the world; it expands the circle of your international acquaintances and enriches your life experience in group of people from diverse backgrounds; and it develops your English and communication skills in an international atmosphere.

Globalization challenges our civic skills and our identities: future world citizens need the ethics & the know-how by which to build a sustainable & inclusive global future. Don’t be left behind! 😉
