Our diverse faculty

The Faculty of Education offers diverse expertise related to education and teaching.

Our faculty educates professionals for positions in basic and special education as well as for positions in education and teaching. In addition, we offer a chance to specialise in sustainability and environmental education.

The faculty participates actively in conducting research. Our research is focused on understanding and promoting educational phenomena as part of global and Arctic change and adaptation to these changes. Inclusion, equality, equity and sustainability are emphasised in our research.

Teacher Training School

The University of Lapland Teacher Training School provides high-quality basic education for grades 1-9 as a three-series comprehensive school. The Teacher Training School takes care of the majority of the practical training of the students in the primary teacher training at the Faculty of Education of the University of Lapland.

SÁMIED – Research group

The SÁMIED research group studies Sámi upbringing and education in various ways. The research group’s work centres on language and culture aware teaching, intergenerational transfer of knowledge and culture, children and young people’s participation, curricula, teacher training, digitality, well-being of students and lifelong learning.
