A successful green transition requires an understanding of what fairness means from the perspective of different actors – how risks, benefits and drawbacks are distributed, and how they are taken into account in planning and decision-making.

REBOUND – Reconceptualizing Boundaries Together Towards Resilient and Just Arctic Future(s)

REBOUND is a six-year (2023-2029) project funded by the Finnish Strategic Research Council to study the fairness of the green transition from the perspectives of different land use planning in northern Finland.

The project is led by the University of Lapland’s Arctic Centre. It involves the Faculties of Arts and Education of the University of Lapland, the Natural Resources Institute Finland, the Finnish Environment Institute and the University of Helsinki.

  • Focus on participatory methods to work with stakeholders to create a just and sustainable future for the Arctic.
  • Develop design concepts to promote awareness and commitment for a more equitable green transition.
  • Use participatory design, service design and art-based methods to engage local communities, industry and a range of experts.
  • Organise workshops in collaboration with stakeholders and experts and report on pain points identified and insights gained.
  • Develop tools and methodologies to enhance dialogue between stakeholders
  • Create concepts for a more equitable, sustainable and resilient future
