Postgraduate degrees and specialisation programmes

At the Faculty of Social Sciences, you can pursue a Doctor of Social Sciences degree, a Doctor of Administrative Sciences degree or a Doctor of Philosophy degree as a postgraduate degree. The extent of the doctoral degree is 210 credits.

The right to complete a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree may be granted when the dissertation represents something other than the main subject for which the faculty is responsible – in which case it is either strongly multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary research, or the postgraduate student’s previous degree is in such a different field that the degree cannot be granted in the faculty’s subject area even after supplementary studies.

The scope of professional specialisation studies in social work is 70 credits. It takes approximately 2.5 years to complete the programme.

In social work, the specialisation programmes are built on the master’s degree which students have completed to become qualified social workers. The programmes lead to a special social worker’s qualification.

This programme is only available in Finnish.
