Russian

There is a wide variety of Russian courses on offer, ranging from beginners’ courses to specialized courses. There are no entrance exams. Simply assess your own level of language skill (for example, using the European Language Level Self-Assessment Grid). Not all courses are organized each term: please check Peppi for availability first, then register for the courses of your choice through Peppi.

Courses

The four basic courses Russian 1-4 are designed to take a complete beginner to good basic language skills within one year. Each course builds on the former one. If you already have some language skills, you may simply register for the course you feel is most useful to you.

If your Russian skills are basically good, but a bit rusty, Repetition Course (XVEN0221V24) is for you. The focus is on basic grammar and on reading comprehension.

If you already have good basic skills in Russian and would like to practice the language, Russian: Oral Skills 1-2 (XVEN0224V24 and XVEN0227V24) and Russian: Writing (XVEN0228V24) should interest you.

If you are interested in acquiring more specialized language skills, Reading Comprehension (TVEN0201V24) and Project and Networking Skills (TVEN0206V24) are possible choices.

If you are a student of law and have good basic skills in Russian, our courses in Legal Russian may be of interest.

Russian as a Minor Subject (25 ECTS)

Should you be interested in studying either Russian or Legal Russian as a minor subject, please contact the teacher for detailed information.

The courses Russian Culture and Russia Today (XVEN0225V24) and Russian Culture Club (XVEN0009V24) offer useful introductions to the culture of Russia.

Attendance in the course

As a rule, courses arranged by the Language Centre require 80% attendance. Required attendance is a prerequisite for passing the course. Online courses, and self-study courses are clearly marked as such on Peppi.

It is particularly important to attend the introductory lecture or the first meeting of the course to get an idea of the course as a whole and the tasks included in the course. If you are unable to attend the first meeting, please make arrangements with the teacher in advance, otherwise your place may be allocated to another student.
