Translation and language editing services (in-house)

Translation and language editing services are a significant contributor to the internationalisation of the university. In accordance with the university policy, we may translate or edit some strategically relevant and administrative texts free of charge. Should you think that your text promotes the university strategy, please explain why when contacting us.

We translate texts that contain up to 50 translation pages (1,560 characters per page). In language editing, the maximum length is 50 physical pages (no character limit, but line spacing must be 1.5 or more). Depending on our work load and the nature of your text, however, these page limits are negotiable. Please note that we do not accept theses or basic degree-level texts.

Pricing

We price our assignments according to the scope, type, and purpose of the text in question.

  • Translations: €30 per translation page (1,560 characters without spaces)
  • Language editing: €30 per hour (hourly fee because texts vary a great deal in quality)

Details on pricing:

  • We price language editing on an hourly basis, because the quality of texts varies a great deal. The price depends on the amount of support you need with the text.
  • The university subsidises the costs to some extent. This results in lower prices compared to commercial operators.
  • We translate and edit administrative texts free of charge. The same applies to texts that clearly support the university’s strategy and strategy-based research. In the latter case, please explain how your text promotes the strategy when contacting us.

How to proceed?

When contacting us, do the following:

  • Email Sari and Aimo (firstname.lastname@ulapland.fi).
  • Attach the original text to the message as a Word or RTF file.
  • Name the client and give the client’s contact information.
  • State the deadline for the work (when you need the finished text latest)
  • If you use project funding, specify the project and name the person in charge of it.

The most important thing is to act as early as possible, because we keep receiving translation and editing assignments. The early bird catches the worm!
