News

The project HEI-SAMI – Sámi language in higher education in suburban areas , coordinated by the University of Lapland’s Faculty of Education, has just been selected as a best practice example of a Nordplus Languages project. The theme of the call for applications was social sustainability, which, according to the funding body, the project represented in an excellent way. The HEI-SAMI project has built a Nordic network of universities working on teaching the endangered Sámi language, produced teaching materials and a VR game. The project will also result in academic publications. The project is receiving excellent visibility, as Nordplus has published an article on the HEI-SAMI project on its website and the project leader, Professor Pigga Keskitalo, has been invited to a panel discussion at a Nordplus seminar in Stockholm in May.
