Turnitin

Plagiarism detection

Do not plagiarise!

At the University of Lapland, we use Turnitin to check for possible plagiarism. Plagiarism refers to unauthorised borrowing or presentation of someone else’s work, research plan, manuscript, article or other text either partially or entirely as your own. One form of plagiarism is self-plagiarism, which refers to recycling and using one’s own text more than once.

Do not copy other people’s texts! It is wrong and punishable, and you will be caught.

Turnitin for students

Using Turnitin

Your teacher will give you instructions on how to submit your work for a Turnitin analysis. The Turnitin analysis can be performed in the Lapinkampus Moodle. A file submitted to Moodle can be submitted for a Turnitin analysis with the Assignment activity. Submit your file as usual with Moodle’s Assignment activity. When you are submitting your file, you must accept Turnitin’s EULA terms of use (this is done only when submitting a work to Turnitin for the first time). Submit your file by dragging it to the “Submit files” field and save. Please note that the file size may not exceed 100 MB and that the files can include up to 800 pages (.xls/.xlsx and .csv files must not exceed 450 pages).

Read instructions on using Turnitin here.

After submitting a file

After submitting your file, you will see the file name in the “Submission status” view, and next to the file format, you will see a “Queued” icon which tells you the analysis is underway. You will also receive an e-mail confirmation of your file being submitted to Turnitin. If the analysis of your file has not been successful, for example due to a wrong file format, you will see the text “The report is not available” in the “Submission status” view. When your submission has been analysed, your similarity score is displayed as a percentage (%) after the file name. Click on the percentage button to open the analysis report in a new browser tab.
