Short Mobilities Abroad

Go for a short mobility! Utilize multiple opportunities to go international during your studies. You can gain international experience, language, or other skills, eg, during summer. Include short mobility programs like intensive courses abroad, language courses, and summer schools in your studies. You can always apply when you find a suitable option.

Search Instructions

For short-term mobility, you can find opportunities in the following ways:

  • By searching the websites of higher education institutions you are interested in.
  • Your subject teacher may offer an opportunity.
  • Through offers sent from faculty email lists.

You will receive detailed instructions on the exchange process. You will receive an invitation from your responsible teacher or Internationalisation Services.

  • Apply for exchange electronically in the SoleMOVE system: www.ulapland.fi/solemove
  • Start your application by selecting the correct application form (Application form for short mobility) and mobility type (Study / Traineeship).
  • Remember the application attachments, which will be specified for each course in the guidance session.
  • All applications must include the following: Things to consider during the mobility period abroad (form), signed, link
  • Note: The SoleMOVE application must be made before the start of the exchange, preferably as soon as you have been accepted for the course.
  • Mobility type: Blended Mobility
  • You can check the description of the virtual study part with the responsible teacher or by participating in the information.
  • The number of credits must be at least 3 ECTS.
  • Note: For short traineeships (max 30 days) use Learning Agreement for Traineeship in PDF-format.

Always start the application from a confirmed exchange in the SoleMOVE system. Grants are paid twice a month, on the 15th and last day of the month. The processing time for the payment of grants is three weeks from the receipt of the SoleGRANT application.

Grants available through our university

When doing a short mobility abroad and getting your credits accepted to your degree, you are eligible for a mobility grant. The amount of the grant depends on many things:

  • mobility programme (Erasmus+, Nordplus, other)
  • mobility type (study, traineeship)
  • destination (European, Nordic & Baltic, overseas)
  • type of mobility (only physical, blended)
  • organisation of the mobility (project funded, mobility funded)
  • potential top-ups (Fewer opportunities, Green travel, Inclusion support)

You should always attend course specific info session or consultation on office hours. You will receive course specific instruction to apply for right grant.

Erasmus+ Short Blended Mobility Grants

Erasmus+ grants are determined according to the duration of the exchange. The grant is paid for the physical mobility period of the course (5–30 days).The grant is 79 €/day for days 5–14 and 56 €/day for days 15–30.

In addition, students will receive travel support for their mobility and are entitled to two grant-funded travel days.

Erasmus+ travel grant

The Erasmus+ travel grant is determined based on the distance between the city of the home university and the city of the exchange destination (length of the one-way trip in kilometers).
The travel distance is calculated with the Distance Calculator of the Erasmus+ program (link to the calculator).

You can apply for additional Green Travel support if you travel using an environmentally friendly means of transport (bus, train, carpool or bicycle). At least half of the journeys must be made using the aforementioned green means of transport. You can find more information in the Green Travel declaration form (link to the form).

Nordplus Express Mobility

Express mobility grants:

  • 250 € 1st week,
  • 100 € 2nd week,
  • 100 € 3rd week
  • 20 € additional day

Travel grant:

  • 330 € Nordic & Baltic countries
  • 660 € Iceland
  • 1300 € Greenland
  • 175 € domestic travel top-up (only, when related to travelling abroad)

Fewer opportunities support

Fewer opportunities support for short-term mobility is €100 when the exchange lasts 2 to 14 days and €150 when the exchange lasts 15 to 30 days. You can find more information about the support and the grant criteria in the Fewer Opportunities form (link to the form)

During your exchange, check how and when you will receive your Letter of Confirmation and Transcript of Records documents. These will usually only be received after the virtual part, if any, has ended.

By carefully completing the eAHOT application, you will speed up the processing of your application. You can find step-by-step instructions for completing the application in the Peppi instructions. Please pay particular attention to what type of credit transfer you are applying for (replacement or inclusion) and to whom the application should be addressed!

  • Add the necessary information and attachments to the SoleMOVE’s “After Exchange” tab: Letter of Confirmation, Transcript of Records and Peppi transcript of records, which shows the credit transfer credits
  • Fill out feedback in SoleMOVE
  • If you have used Green Travel for your trip, please upload the travel-related receipts and travel documents to the Green Travel documentation section
  • Fill out the EU Survey if you were on an Erasmus+ exchange

Examples of Short Mobilities Opportunities

PH ZURICH SUMMER SCHOOL – Pädagogische Hochschule Zürich / Zurich University of Teacher Education
2 weeks from 21 June to 4 July 2026

From the promises of AI to the challenges of political polarisation, today’s classrooms are shaped by powerful forces. In 2026, Pädagogische Hochschule Zürich offers four course combinations designed to inspire, challenge, and energise your teaching.

The courses are held in the city centre of Zürich, Switzerland.

Prior to each course there will be 2 hour online seminar.

Credits: 5 to 7.5 ECTS

  • Core Programme (2 weeks), including a 2-hour online session prior to the start: 5 ECTS
  • Optional Extension (1 week), including individual mentoring and assignment: 1 – 2.5 ECTS
  • Total possible: up to 7.5 ECTS

Available also cultural and social programme from 21 June to 4 July 2026, running alongside your courses. Highlights include:

  • Welcome picnic on Sunday, 21 June
  • Three events per week after class
    (welcome get-together, chocolate event, cheese tasting, farewell drinks)
  • Weekend excursion to the Swiss mountains

Study fee:

  • 390 € from students nominated by the University of Lapland
  • 790 € from students applying directly to Pädagogische Hochschule Zürich

Possibility for Swiss grant (approximately 500 CHF), to be applied directly from Pädagogische Hochschule Zürich.

AU Summer University at Aarhus University in Denmark is offering more than 90 courses in English at Bachelor or Master level within most academic areas.

As all teaching is research-based, courses have a strong academic foundation. All courses are planned to take place on campus.

Dates for Summer University 2026 are: 

  • Term 1: July 6 – July 24
  • Term 2: July 27 – August 14

SULaw’s Summer Programme – STOCKHOLM UNIVERSITY

SULaw’s Summer Programme in Stockholm University is offering two sessions for law students. Each law course within the Summer Programme is worth 3,5 ECTS (fulltime studies), with a focus on international law. The schedules for the courses are designed to enable the students to participate in two courses in a two-week period, which most students choose to do.

Dates of the summer programme:

  • First session: 22 June – 3 July 2026
  • Second session: 6 July – 17 July 2026

Academic requirements:

All our summer courses are undergraduate courses at either basic and advanced levels. To enrol in a course at basic level, students are expected to have completed at least 60 ECTS (i.e. one full year of studies) in law prior to the programme. For courses at advanced level, we recommend that students have completed at least 120 ECTS (i.e. two full years of studies) in law.

Costs:

The cost of the 2026 summer programme is:
  • 1 session = SEK 6 700
  • 2 sessions = SEK 11 900

Please note that the price above does not include housing; see more information below.

The programme is tuition free. The fees charged are related to costs for the social programme and taxes. More specifically, the following is included in the fees:

  • Wireless internet on campus
  • Welcome breakfast and farewell dinner
  • Public Transportation card for the period of stay
  • Social and cultural events
  • Company visit
  • Insurance
  • Administrative fee and VAT

Please note: Food not listed above is not included in the fee.

Housing:

In the application to the 2026 Summer Programme, students will be able to indicate whether they wish to book accommodation through SULaw or arrange accommodation independently. Accommodation offered through SULaw consists of a small studio apartment (single occupancy) located in Albano, the university’s newest housing area, conveniently situated close to the campus.

The total cost per session for students who choose to book accommodation through SULaw in 2026 will be as follows:

  • One session with housing at Albano:
    SEK 6,700 (tuition fee) + SEK 6,700 (accommodation) = SEK 13,400
  • Two sessions with housing at Albano:
    SEK 11,900 (tuition fee) + 2 × SEK 6,700 (accommodation) = SEK 25,300
